Updates Ahead for the New Year

I've been way behind on blog posts but I wanted to talk about the exciting updates that are to come. I've been working on changes, a little bit every day, on my primary photography website - including fleshing out some galleries and updating the package information. Check out the portraits website now - and come back again after each weekend to see how it's changed and updated! If you are a past client, look for your pictures.

Other updates to come - here is a sneak peak of the new wedding website that will go live by Christmas day:

Photobucket

I can't WAIT to unveil the full new website! Once that's ready, I am thinking about changing up the portraits site to make it a little lighter in color. Then, on to revamping this tired ol' default blog and make it blend with my brand colors and styles. To any web savvy rock stars and coding monkeys - will offer free portrait sessions for web help! ;)

What can you look forward to in future blog posts?
+ Michelle & Eric's Wedding
+ Sarah & Jake's Wedding
+ Chelsea and David's Wedding
+ Amy's Maternity Session
+ Rachel & Ryan's {sexy california beach} Wedding
+ Ruah & Lillian's Newborn Session {twin girls YUM!}

And that's just past sessions I haven't blogged yet! I also want to recap The Best of 2009, special offers for 2010, referral bonuses and more. More goals for 2010:
+ Photography resources for moms and future brides
+ How To's - such as How To make the best of your portrait session

Oh, and, I probably ought to mention the big, BIG news for Pegasus Photography in 2010:

Baby Cameron David Schmidt is due on January 29th, 2010. Want to see some hot hot HOT maternity pictures of me, taken by my good friend and the ever-lovely & talented Stephanie Karen? Beginning in January, begin to see LOTS of blog posts about photography and Baby Cam. How will this affect my business? I will not be booking clients too close before & after my due date and thankfully the wedding season isn't very heavy in the middle of winter. During maternity leave, however, I will have the opportunity to meet with bridal clients and schedule baby, belly and family sessions at my Richland home. And, Cam-willing, get some SLEEP!

Now to leave you with a few hot links:
+ Me Ra Koh's Photography Blog - I've been a huge fan of Me Ra for almost 2 years now and had the pleasure of attending her Chicago 2008 Confidence Workshop. Her blog is as beautiful as she is, and her posts are informative, heartfelt, and AWESOME. Check her out, whether you're a mom, a photographer, or someone who loves great, great blogs.

+ The SOAR! Photography Scholarship - this is a major opportunity for women who want to take the next step in their photography business. I am applying but I encourage other photographers who follow my blog to check it out. Completed applications (with 2 minute video) are due on Monday, December 21st and Midnight PST, though, so hurry up!

+ Lifestyle Crafts has a contest for the next few days to win an L Letterpress kit and custom plate. I am entering to win the kit - Letterpress is DELICIOUS and I desperately want to make business cards and marketing materials for my business at home. L Letterpress will let me do that for a fraction of the cost of having business cards custom-made by another company.

Happy holidays!!

Wedding at Home - Rachel & Chris 7.25.09

On July 25th, 2009, Stephanie from Ethan Rose Photography and I photographed the wedding of a great couple, Rachel and Chris, in Eau Claire, Michigan. The bridal party got ready at the family home of Chris' parents, a beautiful log cabin on a massive piece of land with a gorgeous lake to one side. The wedding took place at a nearby church, and we returned to his family's property for the perfect outdoor reception.

Congratulations, Rachel and Chris! Please enjoy these pictures from your special day. :)

Updates

I've been neglecting my blog lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been shooting. I've had the pleasure of meeting with several fantastic families the past two months and I really look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.

I hope you've seen the new colors and design of my website, Pegasus Photography dot com, as well as my slick new logo. I'm hoping to find a new blog layout that will be just as awesome as my website. Anyone with some blogger skills want to send me some love?

Now, let me introduce you to some awesome people.

Luke

This is Luke, whom I photographed for his 1 month portraits a while ago. He came back for his 3 month portraits and look at how adorable he is!! He had so many great expressions for us and he was a real joy to hang out with again. Don't you love his eyes??

Jon & Theresa

Here are Luke's parents, Jon and Theresa. This shot blew me away when I opened it on the computer and I hope you guys love it too. When I have parents bring in their little ones, I like to give them a little camera love also. I think they look great.

Alyssa

I did family portraits in downtown Kalamazoo with a great family who is moving to Alaska this summer to be missionaries with Covenant Youth of Alaska. We used several shots from our session to make ministry cards for the family, as well.

This is their daughter Alyssa, who was somewhat camera shy but did a fantastic job. I think she had a lot of fun posing in all the great locations, and she just loved these railroad tracks. You can't tell in this picture but it was like 30 degrees outside! Everyone was so brave, getting in and out of their coats for their pictures, while I stood there in my winter parka. ;)

Harry

Here is Alyssa's older brother, Harry. He was so cool and laid back, the camera just loved him. He was the first to climb all over railings and porches and stairs while we looked for great picture locations. I think he was the one who found this old gate. I also have an entire series of shots of the family smiling for the camera, but Harry is making a different goofy face in each one. I love those shots - his mom's response? "That's SO him!!" I think the best shots are the candid looks into your family's actual life. As for Harry, who is so goofy and full of energy, they tell a great tale about this time in his life. This shot, though? I love how quiet and serious he is.

Rich Heather Allyssa & Harry

This is such a fun, relaxed shot of the family, I had to include it. Rich, Heather, Harry and Alyssa, I had a blast with all of you. I hope we can hang out downtown again in the WARM weather before you head off for Alaska!

Ashton

My friend's daughter, Ashton, came over last weekend for a high school portrait session. I found this great umbrella at Dollar General last year and I've been dying to use it with high school girls for portraits. Ashton was a great model and so much fun - I told her to just go crazy with the umbrella and she did not let me down! We only spent an hour together, rather than my standard 2 for a high school student or family, but I think we got a ton of great shots. She's going to be a heartbreaker, I just know it. ;)

Ashton

And here's one of the last poses I did with Ashton. We got some great smiles and laughs out of her during our session, but I think most of my favorites are when she was serious and quiet. I think if I invited her to come over every weekend for a photo shoot, she would.

Today we had a beautiful Memorial Day at my husband's parents' home. We ate hot dogs and pulled pork and ice cream sundaes. We were having too much fun watching my 22-month old daughter steal the frisbee from her older cousins all afternoon. I just wanted to say a deep THANK YOU to our soldiers, our vets, every family with a loved one in the service or who has lost one, and to those who have laid down their lives for our nation. Happy Memorial Day everyone!

Babies! ♥

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of photographing a coworker's new son. Rowan is about 3 months old and completely adorable. He was so adorable and totally enthralled with the camera. His parents were also my first willing client to go for totally-naked-baby pictures. Rowan did great and no one got wet!

So, here's the teaser:

Gotta love those cute little CHEEKS!!

I am hoping this weather warms up very soon, because I want to start doing high school senior portraits and lots more outdoor things. And, well... I'm just done with the snow!

Kaitlyn is my daughter and she just turned 18 months old. After a year and a half, she has FINALLY decided that she LIKES bathtime. I couldn't resist adding this picture to my post this evening.

Now...to check on the steaks and potatoes we'll be enjoying for dinner. ;)

Kara & Jeff's Engagement Session

My close friend Kara is getting married this June. I'm not photographing her wedding (I'm not ready for that yet!), but it was so much fun doing engagement portraits for her and Jeff, her fiance'. It was the first time I'd gotten to meet him, too, and we had a great time in the cold, wandering around downtown Grand Rapids. It was so nice to have a sunny day!

Here's a sneak peek of some of their pictures from this past Sunday. Love you, Kara!! ♥

The website should be live very soon. I'm so excited! I'm getting calls and setting up new appointments. Things will probably be changing every day on the website, so check back often.

Baby Luke

Welcome to the new blog for Pegasus Photography! I'm really excited to get this blog up and running. I'm working out the last few kinks on the website itself and it will go live very soon.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing John and Theresa's newborn son, Luke. Luke's due date is this Wednesday, January 22, but he was born on December 17th. He was so tiny and soft but he did great with the camera and let us move him around quite a bit.

Here are a few sneak peeks at Luke's very first portrait session.
